This is what greeted me when I got to the plot today. That outline is what I dug yesterday, trying to make myself think that I don’t have TOO much to do. Hah !
Anyway, I spent about an hour and a quarter clearing up as much of the plastic as possible and this is what I got :
Finally made it to the allotment today, after weeks of thinking “Oooh, I really ought to go”. Went with J and did about one and a half hour’s worth of digging. I’ve created my border and within it I should have six nice size beds. Tomorrow will be based around tidying up all the non-organic rubbish and then Wednesday will be marking out the six beds, and again, digging a border. The idea is, to work in manageable chunks, and always have in sight what I’ve done and where I have left to go.
I sorted through my seeds yesterday and it looks like I should be sowing my tomato seeds soon, to get them ready for late spring, early summer. They need starting off in seed trays, which I’m a bit concerned about, but that’s what I have to do, so I have the seed trays all ready.
Photos will follow – J took some, but I’m hoping to take some tomorrow. Getting rid of all the plastic rubbish on my plot will make me feel much better and should look it too.
Went out shopping today with J. Bought the Young Chap’s birthday presents, some colourful pants and borrowed my full quota of books from the library, including “Reading Sex and the City” and a diet/exercise book. 12 others too, and will detail them if they’re any good. The thing about borrowing books from the library, it’s like shopping for free. You can take anything that grabs your fancy, even picking a book based solely on its cover, and all you have to regret is that you need to carry it back as your friend J may not feel like going to the library exactly when you do.
No allotment news, but I did watch the “Gardener’s World” programme from last Friday. It made me feel so much better for not having done much to the allotment since I got it.
Made something from the Sainsburys magazine (July 2006), a layered potato pie with pesto, cherry tomatoes and parmesan cheese. It also had capers and olive oil, which made it a little bit salty and a little bit oily, so next time, I’ll leave those out. I also left out the anchovies and added a small packet of chopped pancetta instead.
Started a new project. J and I went to the LYS and saw their new range. Hurrah – they’ve got rid of the over-priced Rowan and got some interesting yarns. I still only bought exactly what I meant to, but the new Sublime and Sirdar stock looks very yummy. Oh, the new project is Pink Princess from Knit Today’s recent issue, for a colleague’s new daughter. Am trying to get it finished by Friday but as I only cast on this evening, I don’t think so…
Nothing much to say, except I have a laptop AND wireless broadband, which I’m very excited about. But apart from that…
No new recipes tried out, as we had two meals out. Was a bit disappointed with Ultimate Burger this time round as the burgers weren’t really as great as I remembered. The salad is still fab and the milkshakes are yummy – the Young Chap prefers ‘Ed’s’ shakes but these were pretty good – not too thick or sweet.
Bought two new craft books : Making Stuff and the ReadyMade book (two separate links). What with the new laptop and all, haven’t had much of a chance to read them, but they go in a different direction to my knitting/crocheting/card-making projects, more DIY, almost. Which is a good thing – how many knitting books does a girl need ?
Still no allotment. I was really, really hoping to go today or tomorrow but as the rain is lashing down, not much chance of that.
